Betteshanger Colliery Welfare Band CROWNED “National Brass Band Champions of Great Britain (Section 4)”.
We said it back in March when we won the London & Southern Counties Area competition that there was plenty of room for improvement and that’s exactly how we set about achieving our goal. With MD Mike West at the helm, he set a rigorous but enjoyable rehearsal routine and as well as being a fantastic MD, Mike is an excellent band trainer and his rehearsal technique is second to none.
His passion for striving for “only the best” has rubbed off on the players and ensured the endless hours concentrating on the detail of the piece and our own home practice, paid dividends on the day.
The icing on the cake was achieving Mike’s goal, tricking the Adjudicators in to hearing our Southern Band can sound like a decent Northern Band. Thanks Mike West for all your hard work.
